In love with the creations of Jean Paul Gaultier

A week ago I’ve been to the amazing exhibition ‘The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier’. A dazzling multimedia show at the Kunsthal Rotterdam. Jean Paul Gaultier is a fashion designer from France. You might know him from things as the white and blue Breton shirts or the famous corsets with pointed bra cups which he designed for Madonna and Lady Gaga.

While traveling to the exhibition we had to take the tram. During the ride we saw a lot of old trees which where ‘dressed up’ with a blue and white stripped kind of corset. Everybody in Rotterdam must know who Jean Paul Gaultier is.

The multimedia show of J. P. G. was overwhelming. The exhibition is the ultimate expression of fashion creativity. The exquisite sets and extravagant looks are provocative and daring. J. P. G. continually tests the boundaries of what is regarded as ‘normal’ and ‘divergent’. His work is breath-taking, the craftsmanship and the extraordinary details awe-inspiring. Hundreds of hours of painstaking dressmaking, each stich and bead and feather and crystal and embroidered flower sewn by an expert hand. With an feeling for the spirit of times J. P. G. links up with existing cultures and subcultures such as the world of sailors, punk, Glam Rock and graffiti. His collections are inspired by world cultures, from Africa and India to Russia and Greece. The show at the Kunsthal Rotterdam presents over one hundred and forty creations from early nineteen-seventies to the present day.

At that day, at that time I really fell in love with Jean Paul Gaultier. I admire his infinite creativity and ‘his passion for fashion’. The show was great, the creations,  the interactive mannequins (so realistic that it was almost scary), the sketches, the photographs, the films and video clips were absolutely awesome.
